Heather: The ubiquitous question: when did you learn to knit, and who taught you? Kait: I learned to knit from a book with a friend during my freshman year of high school. We played with it just like any new medium in our art class and learned a lot just by experimentation. I loved the structure and logic that knitting used, and was really attracted to its potential for creativity within pattern. Heather: What made you decide to open Unwound and/or what is your favorite part of being an LYS owner? Kait: Unwound was the easiest way for me to combine my love of yarn with my love of spreadsheets. I have a weird fascination with financial projections, graphs, and data, and trying to find patterns/make sense of seemingly random numbers.
Heather: What do you enjoy doing when you are not knitting or petting yarn? Kait: Outside of the shop, I play video games, listen to loud music, go hiking with my husband, read, and cuddle with my cats. Recently, my biggest side-hobby has been writing. I participated in NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month - in November, when I wrote 50K words in a month!
Heather: What yarn-y tool do you find most useful, other than needles? Kait: A crochet hook. Especially one of those cute tiny crochet hooks that has a pointed needle on the other end. If I'm on a desert island and only allowed one notion to go with my knitting, that's what I'd choose.
Heather: What is your favorite knitting resource? (Book, web site, person, etc.)
Kait: Is Ravelry too easy an answer? Ok, how about Ravelry's search filters. Being able to sort down the hundreds of thousands of patterns on Rav to specifically what you want is such a powerful tool. I wish other websites had such a thorough search filter!
