Knitting in public

Saturday, June 8th was Worldwide Knit in Public Day. In our town, it was also Artspire weekend, which is the largest arts celebration in downtown La Crosse. I decided to take advantage of this and got the go-ahead to take my mobile Little Free Library, Paperback Rider, there. I stocked it with art and craft books (LOTS of knitting books) and brought yarn and needles with me.

I rounded up some friends and we spent the day surrounded by artists, listening to live music, eating from the food trucks, and KNITTING. We had a sign up that offered free knitting lessons and quite a few people sat down and gave it a try. It didn't hurt that we had a lot of shade available on a very hot day.

I handed out 91 books and we had at least a dozen people give knitting a try. A mom and her three kids sat down with me at one point. The youngest was having a hard time, but had a great attitude. The mom got the hang of it and was helping one of the older two while I worked with the other. They were a lot of fun to teach.

This was a fun event and I hope to participate in more things like this in our community.
